Student Lunches with Bat Biologists at NASBR 38 Dear NASBR student member, It is our pleasure to invite you to a new NASBR student event! As student representatives of NASBR, we are responsible for organizing student social events. For NASBR 38 in Scranton, PA, we have arranged a luncheon for students and bat biologists. Several NASBR members will act as mentors representing a variety of fields of bat research. This type of meeting will give you an opportunity to meet with peers from related fields and to chat and brainstorm with mentors. This would also be a good networking opportunity for those seeking collaborates and/or graduate and post-doctoral positions. Joining a lunch group is optional. If interested, you may sign up electronically on the link on the NASBR website (www.nasbr.org) to meet in a small group with your preferred mentor and date (lunch groups will meet on Oct. 23rd and Oct. 24th). We are offering this event over two days in hopes of gaining more participants and to allow flexibility with participants’ schedules. Each mentor will have his/her name and research interests posted online along with the electronic sing-up sheets to better help you choose a lunch group. Each group will consist of 3-5 students per mentor; we’d like to keep the groups relatively small so that everyone may have an opportunity to network. Each group will be responsible for choosing a restaurant, although we may be able to provide suggestions. Each individual will be responsible for his/her own meal expenses. Please understand that this is our pilot year for this event so lunch groups will be on a first come, first serve basis. A follow-up email will be sent to all those who sign-up for this event. If this event is successful, we hope to continue this service at future NASBR meetings. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please contact Miranda Dunbar at milam20m@uregina.ca Another popular student service, The Roost-mate, is back. Please feel free to check on the NASBR website for your room sharing needs. If you have questions or postings for the Roost-mate board, please contact Louise Allen at allenlou@bu.edu Sincerely, Miranda B. Dunbar, University of Regina Louise C. Allen, Boston University |
