Report from the 1st Annual Bat Biologists Open (2008)

Braving frigid temperatures, steep hills, wet fairways, greens slower than shag carpet and rusted rental clubs, 9 intrepid golfers braved the links at Homestead golf course near Carbondale NY and had a lot of fun. Yes they lost a few balls, dug up a few square meters of turf and turned the air blue with a few unprintable words after some questionable shots but we got some exercise, talked bats and Gary MacCracken even survived some new food allergy.

All told nearly 1000 strokes (great value for our green fee dollar) later, Robert Barclay, Mark Brigham, Karen Campbell, Burton Lim, Gary McCracken, Barbara Ogaard, Pat Ormsbee, Robert Parsons and Michael Schirmacher had competed hard and had fun. Pat Ormsbee who was declared the winner by virtue of shooting the median score, vowed to defend her title in Portland in 2009. Most important of all, we raised $200 for the Spallanzani award.
